Frequently Asked Questions

Where are SMC motors manufactured?
All SMC motors are manufactured in China

Are the motors manufactured to NEMA standards?
We can provide both NEMA and IEC frames. All motors are manufactured to NEMA internal design standards.

How does SMC handle warranties?
We can work with any EASA authorized repair facility. However, due to the small size of our motors, it is normally more economical to replace rather than repair.

Does SMC stock motors? If so, where?
Our primary inventory is in Denver, CO. Otherwise, our inventory is based on customer requirements, and is stored at a location that is most convenient for them.

Can SMC provide UL recognized motors?
Yes.

Does SMC offer special payment terms?
Yes. We work closely with our OEM customers to be sure that costs are tied to usage, not simply the delivery.

Does SMC offer application assistance?
Yes. In addition to our in-house engineering staff, we work with well qualified manufacturer’s representatives that have the necessary experience and skills to assure you the optimum product for your application.

Does it cost more to buy SMC motors thru the rep?
No. Your local rep can provide significant value to you at no additional cost.

What are the benefits of a custom motor? Doesn’t custom mean expensive?
Depending on the application requirements, a custom motor can offer cost savings. For instance, if high starting torque is required along with low running torque, we can help eliminate the need to “oversize” the motor, allowing for better efficiency.

Are SMC motors inverter duty?
Yes and no. With standard Class F insulation and a 1.15 Service Factor, these motors can handle full load torque from 20-80 hertz, depending on duty cycle. With optional Class H insulation, the range is greater. However, if your constant torque requirement is greater than a 10:1 range, we would size the motor around your load signature.

Does SMC offer test or prototype motors at no charge?
Yes.

How fast can an SMC custom prototype motor be delivered?
Normally about 3-4 weeks via air freight. SMC does not charge for the air freight.
